Located in the northeast of Thailand, the rural city of Si Saket is approximately 350 miles from Bangkok and has a population of around 30,000. The city dates back to Khmer times and has numerous ruins, temples and other cultural sites.
The province of Si Saket borders with Cambodia in the south and while there is no official border crossing, it is possible to visit the famous Khao Phra Wihan temple that sits in Cambodia. There are guided tour groups that take care of all transport and necessary travel documentation.
There are numerous ancient attractions to visit in and around Si Saket. Wat Sa Kamphaeng Yai, also known as the Stone Castle, is popular with tourists. The temple was built from sandstone on a high sloping hill by Khmers over 1,000 years ago.
