Yasothon Province Travel Guide

Lying in Thailand’s northeast, Yasothon is famed for its annual Rocket Festival, when local children fire off homemade rockets into the sky. Yasothon is bordered by Roi Et, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen and Mukdahan provinces, and the Chi river runs through the south of the province while the northern plains are dotted with small hills.

Having split from Ubon Ratchathani province in recent years, Yasothon is home to some of the region’s most ancient stupas, Phra That Yasothon. Other highlights include the Hor Trai Buddhist library and Wat Maha That temple as well as the beautiful Phaya Tan Park.

Attracting few visitors, Yasothon’s provincial capital nevertheless features a handful of guesthouses and hotels, with home stays being available throughout the rest of the province. The province is easily accessed by road from the rest of Thailand.
