Nong Bua Lamphu, in Thailand’s northeastern Isaan region, was once a township of Udon Thani. Close to 1,000 years old, it has earned popularity within the world archaeological community due to the exceptional prehistoric fossils, dated at 140 million years old, found in the cliffs outside the town.
The Kudkwangsoi villages also attract a number of visitors due to their sites of fossilized shells. Erawan cave is an equally popular destination, containing impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and a lengthy stairway to the central cavern at whose entrance rests a large Buddha image.
