Nong Bua Lam Phu, located in the northeast of Thailand in the province of the same name, is a historic town which was originally under Laotian rule. The city has a population of over 500,000 and is a major rice farming community.
Positioned in the center of Khorat Plateau, Nong Bua Lam Phu has picturesque scenery and rich farmlands and was until 1993 part of Udon Thani Province]]. The surrounding region of Bang Bua Lam Phu has historical evidence of life from pre-historic times dating back over 2,000 years.
There are numerous attractions in Nong Bua Lam Phu town including temples, pagodas and Namtok Huay To Botanical Park, which has picnic areas, waterfalls and native plants and fauna. In front of the city hall is a large pond, which is a popular place for locals and tourists alike to relax.
Getting There & Away
Nong Bua Lam Phu is easily reached by road, rail and air. The nearby city of Udon Thani has an airport with daily flights arriving from Bangkok. Udon Thani is also home to a train station, which has several services from Bangkok each day. If you wish to travel by bus there are direct routes from Bangkok making the 360-mile trip in around 8 hours.
