Ninh Binh may be the largest city in the region, but it still has plenty of small-town character. Outdoor activities are popular due to the region’s otherworldly karst landscape.

This is the transportation hub for the region and those arriving from Hanoi may spend a night here before connecting to Tam Coc or Hoa Lu, the region’s two most popular destinations. The tourist infrastructure is very good, despite the fact that there are refreshingly few tourists in this laid-back town.

The atmosphere is decidedly bohemian and most of the local hospitality targets budget travelers and backpackers. Beyond the rural atmosphere and beautiful landscape, the only sightseeing attraction is the Ninh Binh Cathedral.

Getting There & Away

Visitors usually arrive in Ninh Binh by bus or train from Hanoi (2 hours, 30 minutes) where there’s a prominent international airport. Once you’re in Vinh Binh, the public transportation options are limited, so most tourists either hire a car or charter a tourist service to the surrounding sites.
