This short and secluded beach is just north of the Ben Hai River mouth, in the Quang Tri province of Vietnam. The surrounding countryside is largely made up of plantations, except for the areas that have craters created by exploding bombs during the Indochina wars.
The silky, sandy beach boasts glowing green sea water and a calm light wind all year round. There are boat trips down the nearby river that prove popular with visitors and the trip provides great views of the small villages, rice fields and pretty landscape that envelops Cua Tung Beach.
In the evening, you can watch the wild albatross flying above the green waters occasionally diving into the sea for a fresh fish dinner. This is a very quiet area with the only sound at night being the sea lapping the shores and the wind blowing through the endless rows of casuarina trees.
Getting There & Away
The closest international airport is located in Hue and is called Phu Bai airport. From here, you can take a taxi, minivan or hire car to reach Cua Tung Beach. There are no buses that run to Cua Tung Beach and there are only two ways to access it. One route is to turn east off Highway 1A for about half a mile and the other is to follow a coastal dirt road south for five miles from Vinh Moc.
