Thanh Hoa Province Travel Guide

The large province of Than Hoa is situated in central Vietnam, in the gateway linking the country’s north and south. It shares borders with Laos to the west and has a 100km (60 mile) coastline at the Gulf of Bac Bo to the east. This region is home to various ethnic groups, such as the Kinh, Muong, Dao, Hmong, Thai and Tho.

With a population of almost 200,000, the province’s capital city Than Hoa is south of the Red River Delta region, 137kms (85 miles) south of Hanoi. Than Hoa features the appealing Hoang Long Antique Museum, and the imposing Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which still offers active services.

Just 16kms (10 miles) from the capital is the famous seaside resort of Sam Son, with emerald waters, fine beaches and a panorama of the Truong Le mountain. Here you will also discover some scenic spots, including the historic Doc Cuoc temple, Trong Mai Island and Mount Co Tien.

Ben En National Park in southwestern Thanh Hoa covers a vast terrain and is frequented by tourists and scientists alike. Breathtaking sceneries include mountains, hills, rivers and a gorgeous lake that encloses 21 islands, making it look similar to Ha Long Bay.

Located 137kms (85 miles) south of Hanoi, Thanh Hoa is serviced by express trains as well as buses from Hanoi’s southern bus station en route to several destinations on national highway 1.
