Ban Prasat is located in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, in the northeast of Thailand. The small farming town has numerous archaeological sites with evidence of life dating back approximately 3,000 years.
Ban Prasat is easily reached from the nearby city of Khorat, which is around 20 miles away. Ban Prasat has been an archaeological site since 1977, when discoveries of early Khmer tools and weapons were found here. The city has undergone major excavations, revealing an array of pieces dating back to the prehistoric period.
The city has several excavation pits and there is also a museum with displays of prehistoric finds as well as some modern villager’s handicrafts including woven baskets, reed baskets, silkworm breeding and musical instruments.
Getting There & Away
Ban Prasat is easily reached from Khorat, which is only 160 miles from Bangkok. Khorat is home to a railway station that has services from Bangkok arriving hourly, which take approximately 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a government bus from Bangkok, which will take around 3 hours.
