Situated on the scenic Chesapeake Bay just 28 miles from Washington is the vibrant city of Annapolis. Dubbed the ‘sailing capital of the world’, Annapolis is home to the US Naval Academy, which is probably the biggest reason that it has such a vibrant nightlife. And although the city hasn’t had a major star emerge from its entertainment scene in about…well never; Annapolis has an energetic theater and music scene.

During the colonial period, Annapolis was the cultural center of America. Visible throughout the city are remarkably preserved 18th century buildings, stunning architecture and statues and memorials of the founding fathers. One of the most famous of these architectural gems is the spectacular Hammond-Harwood House, which dates back to 1774. The Maryland State House has been sitting proudly in the city center since 1779.

One of the liveliest areas in Annapolis is the historic City Dock area. Visitors, locals and yes, even the cadets from the US Naval Academy come here to party. The Dock has a wide selection of clubs that range from hip-hop venues to dance clubs to trendy martini bars. Also in this area, you can find excellent waterfront restaurants, and you can even catch a theater performance or enjoy a night at the symphony.
