Known as the ‘Keystone State’ due to its central location, Pennsylvania is home to the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, Penn State University, the Amish - or Pennsylvania Dutch - and of course William Penn, the founder of the state. Visitors will enjoy immersing themselves in American history as they visit the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and other important American historical landmarks.

Pennsylvania is located in the northeastern US and borders New York, West Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey. Nature lovers will enjoy Pennsylvania’s natural attractions such as the Delaware Water Gap, Allegheny National Forest and the Poconos. Visitors can enjoy various outdoor activities, including hiking, boating, fishing, camping and kayaking. Many mistake Philadelphia as the capital of Pennsylvania, but the capital is really Harrisburg. Philadelphia, however, is the largest city in the state. Harrisburg lies right on the Susquehanna River and played an important role in American history during the Civil War. People flock to Harrisburg on an annual basis to visit the Pennsylvania Farm Show, which is considered the biggest indoor agricultural expo in the US.

Pennsylvania has plenty of attractions and remains a popular destination for families. The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo in the US and there are other zoos in Allentown and Pittsburgh as well. There are also numerous amusement parks such as Idlewild Park, Sesame Place, Waldameer Park and Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, to mention a few. However, visitors should not miss going to Hersheypark. Here, visitors can visit the famous Hershey chocolate factory – a child’s dream come true.

Philadelphia is a city known for its arts and culture and visitors will find a plethora of exhibitions, shows and museums to choose from. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rodin Garden are a must visit for art buffs. Arts lovers should head to the Avenue of the Arts, where there are numerous theaters as well as the Academy of Music and Philadelphia Orchestra. The important and famous historical sites should also not be missed, such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Declaration of Independence.
