Located in the lower part of northern Thailand, Uthai Thani is bordered by Tak, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Chai Nat and Nakhon Sawan. A tributary of the Chao Phraya river, the Sakae Krang river is the province’s main river and forest covered mountains lie to the west.
Originally settled by Lawa and Mon, Uthai Thani is now famed for being the hometown of King Rama I’s father. The Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary is home to elephants and tigers, among other forest animals, and Wat Ubosatharam and Wat Sankat Rattana Khiri are among some of the province’s most fascinating temples.
Uthai Thani is well connected to the rest of the country and although not one of Thailand’s most frequently visited provinces by foreigners, it features a surprising range of accommodation options, with most of them found in the provincial capital of Uthai Thani.
