Tuy Hoa lies just north of Nha Trang on the mouth of a scenic river. Although not having the best beach, Tuy Hoa makes a good quieter alternative to Nha Trang or Vung Tau.
The friendly feel of a visit to Tuy Hoa is one of the main attractions, where the locals seem more hospitable than other beach towns and cities. Food, accommodation and drinks are also cheaper than other higher profile places on the coast, although you forego the tourist infrastructure.
Tuy Hoa is okay for a swim, bar the sandbar, and is supplied with many food vendors, plus there is a small shopping area nearby with many natty items and souvenirs on offer. For a break from the beach and town, the nearby Nhạn Mountain (Chop Chai) is good for a hike and boasts temple ruins (Cham Temple) and amazing views.
Getting There & Away
Buses and trains both run to Tuy Hoa from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City via Hue and Nha Trang respectively. Train times are 2 hours, 30 minutes from Nha Trang and 7 to 10 hours from Danang. The best transport option is train as there are sleeper carriages available. Highway 1 serves Tuy Hoa and the nearest major airport is in Ho Chi Minh City, a day’s bus or train ride away.
