Thong Pha Phum is just off the main route 323 on the way to the Three Pagodas Pass from Kanchanaburi. It’s a small market town worthy of a stop off on the way north and has a nice setting beneath limestone hills.
Thong Pha Phum sits at the end of Khao Laem Lake and its setting is its main appeal to tourists. Khao Laem Dam sits on the lake and is one of the attractions in Thong Pha Phum, while the bustling market can also be lots of fun. If you have your own transport and plan on staying in Thong Pha Phum, you could also visit nearby Sai Yok National Park]] and Pu Thong Elephant Park.
There are a few accommodation options in Thong Pha Phum if you decide to stay over, along with some restaurants, although Thong Pha Phum generally lacks any real tourist amenities.
Getting There & Away
Minibuses and regular buses make a stop in Thong Pha Phum en route to Sangkhlaburi from Kanchanaburi, and vice versa. Services take 2 or 3 hours from Kanchanaburi; minibuses are faster. Kanchanaburi is easily accessed from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok in 2 or 3 hours.
