The small city of Tasikmalaya is located in West Java, conveniently close to a number of towns and cities. Although not the liveliest of places, this is a good place to relax.
Little has changed here for hundreds of years, making this a good place to discover the area’s traditional culture and history. There are a couple of beaches located on the outskirts of Tasikmalaya, and beach bunnies will have plenty of room to stretch out on the sand here.
What make Tasikmalaya really special are its arts and crafts, with many of the people who live here skilled in traditional crafts. This is a good place to pick up a souvenir or two before heading off to the heady pleasures of one of Indonesia’s vibrant cities.
Getting There & Away
Tasikmalay is a 3-hour bus ride from the city of Bandung, which has its own international airport. Buses also run to Tasikmalaya from towns as cities such as Bogor and Sukabumi, while Jakarta is a 24-hour bus journey away.
