Tangat Island is a little Palawan island in the Calamian group of islands, North Palawan. It is located a couple of kilometers off the Busuanga Island coast and is a popular spot with cruise liner tourists and divers.
Those looking for a bit of exclusivity tend to head for Tangat Island, as opposed to one of the other Calamian islands, with its many luxury resort villa operations and cottages. There are many little white sandy beaches dotted around Tangat Island, and easy access to the WWII Japanese shipwrecks in Coron Bay makes it all the more appealing.
The water is crystal clear around Tangat Island, meaning optimum diving, plus the numerous wrecks and their associated coral and exotic fish make them a world favorite for ardent divers. Swimming here for kids is also good, with many resorts being set on the beachfront.
Boating opportunities aboard banca outriggers are plentiful and visitors can enjoy an island-hopping experience from Tangat. Paddle boats and kayaks can also be rented. Nearby Coron Island has two beautiful freshwater lakes - Barracuda and Kayangan - while Busuanga Island has the bulk of the facilities, particularly in Coron Town.
