Si Sawat is a district to the north of Kanchanaburi Province, lying just east of the huge Si Nakharin Reservoir. It is a stunning region of Thailand best known for its waterfalls, dam, and nearby Erawan and Sri Nakarin national parks.
Travelling around Si Sawat district can be tough going, especially during the wet season, owing to the sheer amount of water here and the rough roads away from route 3199. One of the main highlights of Si Sawat is the nearby Si Nakharin Dam, which produces a huge amount of electricity.
Also not far from the dam and Si Sawat are Erawan Falls - a multi-tier set of falls with an aquamarine glow to them that have great swimming and walking. The beautiful Huay Mae Khamin Waterfalls are also nearby. Si Nakarin Lake also offers good fishing and water sports as well as quality accommodation in raft lodges.
Getting There & Away
You can get to Si Sawat by bus from Kanchanaburi although the journey is quite a long and windy one. Getting to Si Sawat along route 3199 is a better option - be sure to rent a four-wheel-drive in the wet season. Kanchanaburi is 2 to 3 hours from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
