The birthplace of the first recorded Siamese twins, Samut Songkhram is also famous for being the smallest of all the Thai provinces. The southeastern coast of this central Thai province is situated where the Mae Klong river meets the Gulf of Thailand, and the area around the estuary consists of many lakes used for producing salt.
While tourists rarely put the province on their list of must-visit places, there are a few interesting attractions in the area. Located in the Amphawa district, the Ban Khao Yi San Museum exhibits informative displays relating to the province’s historically unique life and culture.
