The Peradayan Forest Reserve lies 15kms from Brunei’s Bangar and spans 1,070 hectares of lush greenery. Visitors to this impressive reserve in the remote Temburong District can enjoy serene forest trails, cool caves, rare wildlife and spectacular views.
At the reserve visitors can enjoy Brunei’s unspoiled natural heritage away from the crowds, despite it being the most easily accessible of all of Brunei’s nature parks. Arrive early to see the most wildlife but be sure to avoid the dangerous creepy crawlies that call the reserve home.
The park’s 1.6km forest trail directs walkers up and down the mountain sides and takes around 2 hours to complete. Visitors may also climb the twin hills of Bukit Peradayan (410m) and Bukit Patoi (310m), and there are picnic shelters en route.
The real highlight of Peradayan, however, is the unusual caves and rock formations, best explored with a guide. Rare wildlife such as kijang deer can also be spotted while the viewpoint at the peak of Bukit Patoi offers the best vistas in the reserve, which on clear days take in Sarawak and the South China Sea.
Getting There & Away
The park is just 15kms from Bangar and over 60kms from Brunei International Airport in Bandar Seri Begawan. The most popular way to reach the reserve is by boat from the capital, a 45-minute journey, although helicopter and car transportation are also available.
