Known as the royal town of Pahang Darul Makmur, Pekan is considered one of the state’s more interesting visitor destinations. It gets its royal status from being the official residence of Pahang’s royal family.
The town is within easy driving distance of Kuantan and is a popular weekend getaway destination for locals. There’s plenty to see during the day but little to do at night so it’s not really a destination for partyheads.
The Royal Palace of Pekan is the town’s top attraction but the local nature is also one of its major draw cards. Huge wild trees are a common sight and offer good bird-watching opportunities.
Getting There & Away
Pekan lies 45kms south of Kuantan and there are daily bus services between the two, with the journey taking just an hour. If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur, you can take one of the many services as far as Kuantan and then change for Pekan.
