Roughly 13 miles from the Thai capital, Nonthaburi became its own province in 1946. Historically part of Ayutthaya, the 400-year-old community was once located at a famous fruit market upon an intersection of canals leading to the Chao Phraya river until King Phra Pok Klao ordered the township to be relocated to its present day site.
It is often visited for its numerous temples and colorful murals, as well as for its flower gardens and traditional teak homes. Suan Tan Noi is one popular flower garden within an orchard where Thai homes and a Mon village are open to visitors daily.
