Malacca, or Melaka as it is known locally, is the third smallest state of Malaysia. The capital of the province is Malacca town. Major highlights in this state are remainders of colonial history: Fort A Famosa, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century; St John’s fort, constructed by the Dutch in the 18th century; and Francis Xavier church, built by a French priest in the 19th century.
Facing the Straits of Malacca, Melaka has a strategic location en route to Far Eastern countries, and the state is easily accessed by bus or train.
