Pasir Salak, a small town in the Malaysian state of Perak, is home to Kompleks Sejarah Pasir Salak, a complex dedicated to preserving details of the most important events of the area’s past.
Though the History Complex is its major feature, the town itself is most famous for having borne witness to the assassination of JWW Birch, Perak’s first British resident. A local chief known as Maharajalela was responsible for spearing Birch and in the years since his demise, Maharajalela has become celebrated as an important anti-colonial hero.
The museum at the History Complex is undoubtedly the greatest attraction at Pasir Salak although the Malaysian rainforests surrounding the town are also popular with nature enthusiasts. The museum within the complex houses 42 dioramas depicting key events that took place between the 14th and 19th centuries.
