Located in northern Kanchanaburi Province, Khao Laem National Park is a park of fertile forests, the huge Khao Laem Reservoir, striking waterfalls, nice walking and many interesting side attractions.
Khao Laem National Park was one of five national parks that was so designated on King Bhumibhol’s birthday on December 5, 1987, to honor his 60th year. The park measures a medium 1,500 square kilometers and has many stunning sights including Kra Teng Jeng Waterfall and Mon Bridge - the longest wooden bridge in Thailand.
Kra Teng Jeng Waterfall is the main attraction in Khao Laem National Park; a medium-sized fall with 23 tiers and some good adjacent walking. The falls plunge for over two kilometers and the path takes in banana, bamboo, evergreen, and mixed deciduous forests. The falls are a few kilometers from the park’s headquarters and include a stunning viewpoint over Khao Laem Dam.
Getting There & Away
Khao Laem National Park is a fair way from Kanchanaburi, the main base for visits to the park, although it can be accessed directly by bus along route 323, the main route to the Burma border. Kanchanaburi itself is 3 hours from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.
