Considered to be the cradle of Malaysian culture, Kelantan shares a border with the Thai province of Narathiwat. It is an agrarian area with paddy fields and traditional fishing villages.
Kota Bahru is the capital of the province, with its colorful markets. Places to visit here include the Cultural Center, the Crafts Museum and the Istana Jahar Palace. Kelantan has many unspoiled beaches on the shores of the South China Sea, while vast areas of forest cover the state and form part of the Taman Negara]] National Park.
Attractions in Kelantan include Stong Hill and Jelawang waterfalls, Pantai Cahaya Bulan beach and the water rapids and waterfall of Lata Rek. Traditional Malay traditions such as flying giant kites (wau) or tasting nasi dagang (a Kelantan specialty based on coconut milk) can be experienced here.
Kelantan is easily accessed by road, train or plane via Kota Bahru Airport.
