Though it forms the capital of the district of the same name, Jerantut is essentially only a medium-sized town located on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia. It’s best known as a launch pad for trips to the popular Taman Negara National Park.
Jerantut town and its surrounding district sit in the central Pahang region and are well served by public transportation. Many holiday makers vacationing in Kuala Lumpur take advantage of Jerantut’s proximity, taking overnight excursions or trips lasting several days from the capital in order to best appreciate its attractions.
Taman Negara National Park is unquestionably the town’s chief attraction. You need a permit to enter but it’s worth it for the opportunity to see the likes of elephants, rhinoceroses, leopards, tigers, monkeys and more.
Getting There & Away
Jerantut sits some 124 miles from the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. There are daily bus and train services to Jerantut town from Kuala Lumpur, with the former taking approximately 3 hours, 30 minutes to complete the journey and the latter considerably longer at 6 hours, 30 minutes. There are also bus services from Kuantan, Klang Temerloh and Melaka.
