Sited in the far north of Vietnam, Ha Giang province contains the northernmost point in the country and shares a frontier with China. Much of the region is covered by woodland, as it is too hilly for agriculture. Many ethnic minorities live in Ha Giang, with the Viet being the largest group.
Ha Giang is one of Vietnam’s most impoverished provinces, and its infrastructure remains poor-streets, schools and health facilities are less developed compared with most other parts of the country.
