The border town of Ha Giang is found in Ha Giang Province, occupying Vietnam’s most northerly point. It particularly noted for its nearby hiking and camping in the stunning surrounding countryside.

Ha Giang is one of the highest towns in the country and has a quintessential view of mountainous Vietnam and China, surrounded as it is by sharp hills and many hill tribes. The main sights to see in this part of Vietnam are the Than Thuy-Thien Bao National Frontier Pass and Quang Ngan Waterfall.

Dong Van Highland is a popular area near Ha Giang, lying at over 1,000 meters above sea level. If you have come for the hiking, be sure to hire a guide. There’s not that much to see in the town of Ha Giang itself, although the Khau Vai love market in May is lots of fun, with vendors and textiles galore.

Getting There & Away

Ha Giang is 300kms north of Hanoi via highway 2 and buses and minibuses regularly make the journey, which takes the best part of a day. Noi Bai International Airport is the closest airport which is just one hour away from the capital.
