A favorite vacation destination by both Americans and Europeans is Florida’s fourth largest city, St Petersburg. Located on a peninsula on Florida’s west coast, the city is known for its beautiful beaches, as well as an important political battleground for the US presidential elections. The pelican on the St Petersburg seal says it all, that the city is all about the ocean and waterfront.

Founded in the late 1880s, St Petersburg was named after its Russian namesake, a place one of its founders, Peter Demens, grew up in. As a coastal town, St Petersburg grew up around the fishing industry and although it is no longer the main economic driver for the city, St Petersburg is known for its excellent seafood.

With temperatures ranging from the 50s to 80s (°F) throughout the year, St Petersburg is a favorite destination for those visitors interested in beach and the cultural scene year in, year out. Outdoor activities are the main attraction in St Petersburg, whether it be water sports, concerts or fairs. For example, from October to May, downtown St Petersburg transforms into a big farmers’ market, every Saturday morning, with local produce and fruit, as well as food stalls, BBQ vendors and live music.
