Coron Town is the largest town on Busuanga Island, North Palawan, and is best known for its excellent wreck diving nearby. The town also has a market pier, loads of shops and many hotels and resorts.
The wrecks came about after the US navy sank several Japanese ships during WWII, which are now surrounded with coral. The main attraction in Coron Town is the Market Pier, featuring shops, stalls, restaurants and bars. One downside of the town is the smell from the resident slaughter houses. The Hollywood-style Coron sign above the town is worth a photo.
The main allure of a visit to Coron Town, however, is the many beaches around Busuanga Island and the surrounding islands in the chain, the superb scuba diving also being a major selling point. Also nearby are mangrove swamps, Barracuda and Kayangan lakes, and a nice viewpoint above Coron Town from Mt Tapyas.
Getting There & Away
There is an airport just to the north of Coron Town which receives regular flights from Manila via several airlines - about an hour’s flight. Jeepneys and minivans serve the town. Ferries from Manila to Puerto Princesa, the capital of Palawan, take 13 hours to reach Coron Town.
