Calauit Island in North Palawan is a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary, home to indigenous and African flora and fauna. It is a Filipino nature success story and is a must-see for lovers of the outdoors.
The island lies just off the north coast of Busuanga Island in northern Palawan and features a mix of local and exotic animals from the African continent living side by side. Every effort has been made to keep the place original and untouched, with isolated forests, mangrove swamps, grasslands and plenty of rare animals.
Those visiting Calauit Island have to come through Busuanga Island, where there are plenty of attractions, including beaches, excellent diving and bustling Coron Town. The main attraction in the region is the world class wreck diving in Coron Bay, which features sunken Japanese WWII ships. The clear water and sheer variety of hard and soft corals, not to mention the masses of fish, is an experience to behold.
Coron Town is the main town on Busuanga Island and the entry point from Manila. There are plentiful hotels and resorts in and around Coron Town, as well as shops, restaurants and bars.
Getting There & Away
The best way to access Calauit Island is to fly direct from Manila to Busuanga, where there’s a small airport to the north of Coron Town.
