Bophloi, or Bo Phloi, is located to the northeast of Kanchanaburi town in Kanchanaburi Province and is known for its many mines and gemstones and for its nice surroundings.
Blue sapphires and semi-precious materials like onyx are mined at Bophloi, along with gold, silver, and rubies. You can check out the cut and uncut stones at Bophloi shops, where prices are cheaper than elsewhere in Thailand.
Major attractions worth checking out in the region are Kanchanaburi Safari Park, a pretty area with animals from all over Asia and Africa, and Chaloem Rattanakosin National Park farther afield. Bophloi is just off the main route 3086 so is easy to get to from Kanchanaburi town by bus, hire car or scooter.
Getting There & Away
Bophloi is only around 40kms north of Kanchanaburi town and is just off route 3086. Buses run here frequently from Kanchanaburi and you can be here within the hour by motorbike or hire car. Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport is the gateway to Thailand and a 3-hour journey by road from Kanchanaburi.
