Ba Dong Beach is a pretty beach right down in the south of Vietnam, in Tra Vinh Province. It lies around 55kms from Tra Vinh City and features several kilometers of gorgeous sands.
The French had a resort built along Ba Dong Beach during their colonial tenure in Vietnam. Today the beach is a popular side trip for tourists from Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region and is also a favorite with visiting Vietnamese. Luckily, Ba Dong Beach has not yet been over-exploited for its fresh air and views, although there are plenty of guesthouses and bungalow type resorts to choose from, along with numerous seafood restaurants.
As well as the bathing visitors can get into water sports, mess about in the sand dunes, or head into mangrove forests not far away. There are also shrimp lakes, a lighthouse, and several small islets to check out in the area. Also, be sure to visit the Underground Houses that were built during the war under the canopy of massive trees.
Getting There & Away
Ba Dong Beach is several hours south of Ho Chi Minh City by bus, going by way of Trah Vinh. You could hire a car and have a driver take you there although it’s not much faster as the road system was largely destroyed during the Vietnam War. Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the nearest major airport, about three or four hours transfer time from Ba Dong Beach.
