Situated in Guangxi Province between_ Guilin and Yangshuo, Zuo Jiang Scenic Area is one of the province’s most spectacular areas of natural beauty, featuring stunning limestone hills and flowing rivers. _
The hills of Zuo Jiang Scenic Area are a special type of karst and were formed after the soluble rocks around them dissolved. The remaining rocks have formed weird and wonderful shapes, a natural marvel that looks as if it has been sculpted on purpose.
Li River runs through Zuo Jiang Scenic Area and many visitors book a tour on one of the many tourist boats that travel along the river for views of the karsts. Here, the Li River meets the West River and flows onward to Yangdi. The trip from Yangshuo takes about four hours and it is possible to spend several hours standing on the desk of one of the boats making shapes out of the rock faces.
The spectacular natural beauty of Zuo Jiang Scenic Area has been inspiring poetry and works of art for centuries. Fishing is an important industry here and there are a number of small restaurants lining the river where visitors can dine on fresh river fish prepared and cooked in the traditional style.
Getting There & Away
Situated between Guilin and Yangshuo, Zuo Jiang Scenic area is best reached by boat. Visitors can fly into Guilin Airport from Hong Kong International Airport (50 minutes), and then take a bus to the river from Guilin Airport (10 minutes). It takes about 2 hours to travel from Guilin to Yangshuo by boat.
