This small town in Jiangsu, China is best known as hometown of Pearl S Buck, famous Nobel Prize winning author. The town resides over the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal.
There isn’t much in the way of dedicated tourist attractions here. There was a strong British and French presence here after the Opium Wars, and the international atmosphere hangs on in certain neighborhoods. The most obvious colonial-era structure is the British consulate-turned museum.
Given the fact that there isn’t much to do in Zhenjiang, locals and visitors spend a great deal of time in the town parks. These outdoor arenas are carefully landscaped and boast thick tracts of forest.
Getting There & Away
The express bus station is the best bet for tourists, with service to Nanjing (1 hour, 30 minutes), Suzhou (2 hours) and Shanghai (3 hours, 30 minutes). All of these cities are prominent transport hubs, but the latter has the only notable international airport with a long list of flights available.
