Yunfeng Shan (Yunfeng Mountain) is a pretty little Taoist mountain near the Burma border in southwest Yunnan. It is strewn with pagodas and temples and is accessible via cable car.

Yunfeng Shan is around 50kms north of Tengchong and is not worth the journey alone from Kunming. If you are in the region (in Baoshan or one of the Burma border towns) it is worth a look.

If you don’t have good legs you can take the cable car to the Yunfeng Si shrine on the summit, where there is a viewing terrace. The 3,700-meter-plus Gaoligong Mountain can clearly be seen on a good day. There are also several small pagodas up on Yunfeng Shan, along with a collection of weird-shaped stones that offer scope for walking.

Getting There & Away

Tour buses run all day to Yunfeng Shan from Tengchong; a 2-hour drive. Tengchong itself is best got to via the town of Baoshan, two hours to the east. It lies on the main G320 Burma Road with direct access from Kunming. Buses take 11 hours to reach Tengchong from Kunming, while Baoshan Airport is a 50-minute flight from the Yunnan capital.
