Located near the border with Yunnan and within reach of Kunming, Xingyi is an unassuming city in southwest Guizhou. It is a stop-off town between Guiyang and Kunming and has nice surroundings.
Xingyi is a fair way from the main Guiyang-Kunming Expressway, yet is connected to it by the S214 highway. It is a six-hour bus ride from Guiyang and the big attraction is Xingyi’s surroundings. It is swathed in stunning karst scenery, with the main attraction being the 15km long Maling Gorge where there is good boating and walking.
Xingyi itself makes a decent base for visiting Maling Gorge, as well as for Yunnan’s Stone Forest. There are several guesthouses in Xingyi and the Garden of the Street Center (Jiexinhuayuan) plaza is the place to eat.
Getting There & Away
Xingyi is a six-hour bus ride from Guiyang, off of the Kunming-Guiyang Expressway. The trip from Kunming is shorter. Both Kunming and Guiyang have major airports with flights from main Chinese centers.
