Xiajiang is a traditional Dong village near the town of Rongjiang in southeast Guizhou province. The village is a minibus ride away from Rongjiang and is near the Guangxi border.
Xiajiang is less touristy yet not as friendly as other Dong villages in the region. This is perhaps due to the lack of visitors, but it has a more authentic feel. The streets are unsealed and become quagmire-like during the rainy season. A river runs through the village and boat travel is the main way to get about.
Everything revolves around the livestock market in Xiajiang, with all sorts on sale, including clothes, beer, livestock, and even live dogs for food. Xiajiang has just the one inn for accommodation which has a basic restaurant connected to it.
Getting There & Away
The only way in is by minibus from nearby Rongjiang. From Guiyang, the Guizhou capital, Rongjiang is about six hours by bus along the G321 highway. The nearest airport is Guiyang’s Longdongbao Airport, 300kms to the northwest.
