West Bali National Park- Taman Nasional Bali Barat is the most beautiful region of Bali, occupying a huge slice of land in the northwest corner of the island.
It contains beaches, mountains, forests and a range of flora and fauna. The park is just across the water from East Java and is a fair way from Denpasar, the Balinese capital. It encompasses mixed forests, mangroves and a savanna, along with four lofty volcanoes at the center - Mount Patas is the highest at 1,412m.
There are scores of species in the park, including barking deer, banteng, and a plethora of plants and trees. Options for getting active include scuba diving and trekking. There is a one-kilometer long beach in the north near Nusa Menjangan with some of the most divine reefs on Bali.
Jungle walks are popular and generally entail tough slogs through dense undergrowth. Permits and guides are a must for visiting West Bali National Park, which can be arranged in Cekik.
Visitors to West Bali National Park- Taman Nasional Bali Barat should perhaps also have a look at nearby Labuhan Lalang on the northeast coast. It’s a nice place to be based for visits to the park and has access to some excellent diving. Boats go out to nearby Nusa Menjangan, which is part of the park.
Getting There & Away
When coming from East Java by ferry, West Bali National Park is accessed through Gilimanuk. The park is around 3 hours by road from Denpasar along highway 2, the southern coastal road. Ngurah Rai International Airport lies to the south of Denpasar and is the nearest major airport with connections to Jakarta and regional capitals.
