Located near the northern end of town, this temple is best combined with a visit to the morning market, as it’s right next door.

It occupies a big compound and the huge viharn immediately catches the eye with its roofs stacked one upon the other to a considerable height. The silver eaves are smothered with delicate patterns and the large Buddha image, called Phra Chao Phala Lakhaeng, was made in Mandalay and brought here in the 1930s.

The newish, brightly decorated bot, which stands in a corner of the compound, has some rich red painting and glittering mosaic work. Though most temples in Mae Hong Son are constructed in Shan-style, this one is on a grand scale so is more impressive than most.
