The diminutive Wat Hua Khuang sits in downtown Nan near Wat Phra That Chang Kham and is noted for its Lanna-style architecture and wood carvings.
Dating from the 1500s and restored in the 1800s and again in the 1900s, Wat Hua Khuang is definitely one of the best preserved old temples of Nan. It boasts an ancient stupa that has four Buddha niches with an image within each, and a recently-restored scripture library covered with reflective glass mosaics.
Inside the main temple building is a carved ceiling and a fine wooden altar, while an all-wood verandah sits out front. The front gable is the most impressive part, featuring as it does stunning carvings.
