Lying at the end of a picturesque peninsular in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, to the southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau is one of the top beach destinations in Vietnam.

Vung Tau is technically an island as it is separated from the mainland by a river, although most people liken it to a peninsular. It has nice beaches, yet its proximity with Ho Chi Minh and the Mekong Delta is the main draw. There are many beaches in Vung Tau, with Front Beach (Bai Truoc), Rear Beach (Bai Sau) and Pineapple Beach (Bai Dua) being the most popular.

Nearby Bai Truoc is a popular place to visit during the day and when the sun goes down as it boasts many open-air restaurants, cafés and bars. Also worth seeing in Vung Tau is Vung Tau Harbor, with its boats and fresh seafood, while the surrounding mountains feature temples and pagodas.

Getting There & Away

Vung Tau doesn’t have an airport or railway station, although it is well served by roads and river. Hydrofoils come in regularly from Ho Chi Minh City via the Saigon River in around 90 minutes, while buses go from Mien Dong Station. Ho Chi Minh City Airport is the main gateway to the south and Vung Tau.
