Waterbury Travel Guide

The quaint village of Waterbury lies in Washington County in the heart of Vermont, amid Vermont’s Green Mountain range on the shores of the Winooski River. Due to its proximity to the skiing areas of Sugarbush and Stowe, Waterbury is also dubbed ‘Vermont’s Recreational Crossroads’. The community is home to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream; their factory tours having become Vermont’s best-liked tourist attraction. Waterbury is full of historic buildings and its atmosphere is still typical Vermont small town.

The unmatched scenery around Waterbury is enticing not only for nature enthusiasts as towering mountains, rushing streams, lush farm studded valleys and old-fashioned hamlets still present an image of the olden America. A number of antique shops heighten a sense of America’s antecedents, above all at the Shelburne Museum and at Shelburne Farms alongside Lake Champlain.

Thousands of visitors come to Waterbury each year to take pleasure in the scenic views and ample outdoor attractions and activities in the area. The central location of the village is ideal for sightseeing, hiking, skiing, sledge rides, fishing or shopping as well as for exploring the surroundings such as the capital Montpellier, Burlington, and the four world-class ski resorts of Sugarbush, Stowe, Mad River Glen and Bolton Valley, all accessible within 25 minutes of the community.
