Udomxai (also Oudomxai) province is located in the northwest region of Laos. After splitting from Luang Prabang province in 1976, it became its own province.
The capital of the province was Ban Nahin until it was moved to Muang Xay in 1987. Oudomxai province is popular for its many eco-tourism excursions offered to tourists. Visitors usually hop from village to village, exploring the land via ox cart or trekking on foot.
There are a handful of waterfalls, hot springs and natural scenery that attract visitors to the region, such as the Tad Lak Sip Et waterfall and Phouxay mountain.
The northern bus station in Luang Prabang departs to Oudomxai and takes about five hours to arrive.
