Situated just 24kms from Yangon, Twante is a great daytrip destination for those who want to spend some time in Myanmar’s capital city.
Twante is famous for its pottery and cotton weaving, both of which make great souvenirs. There are also a few impressive temples and pagodas to explore, while for many the main attraction is the journey as the ferry ride down the Yangon River is very pretty and relaxing.
Leave Yangon early in the morning and you will pass fishermen and farmers working on the banks of the river as you sail slowly past. Traveling to Twante is like journeying back into the past and provides rest and relaxation before heading back to the modern chaos of Yangon.
Getting There & Away
Tourists can only use the main airport at Yangon. The most scenic way to get to Twante is by ferry from Yangon (2 hours). It is a also possible to take a short ferry ride on the Dallah ferry (10 minutes) and then completed the journey by pickup truck (40 minutes).
