Tubigon is an important seaport in the Philippines on the western shores of Bohol. While it doesn’t have that many tourist attractions in its own right, it serves as convenient gateway linking Bohol with Cebu.
Princess Analiza (born Lucrecia Duterte Aplacador) is probably Tubigon’s best-known celebrity. She saw a vision in the 1970s and now leads a sect of religious followers known as the Subano Group Catholic of Holy God Spirit. They live in relative seclusion on Mt Ilihan.
A bit more mainstream is Tubigon Church, which has ancient roots in the early Jesuit societies of the Philippines. The inside boasts a high, vaulted ceiling and rows of columns.
Other than these two attractions, Tubigon is known as a weaving center. Looms are at work all over town producing beach mats, table runners and raffia rolls. There are a few shops in town that sell to tourists.
Getting There & Away
The most popular way to Tubigon is from Cebu City via ferry. There are 20 crossings every day and the journey only takes 45 minutes on the fastest vessels (2 hours otherwise). Air passengers are routed through Cebu City or Bohol’s capital city, Tagbilaran. The later can be reached by bus in less than an hour.
