Tuban is most visitors’ first experience of Bali as the international airport is located here, with its surroundings packed with resorts, hotels, restaurants, shops, retail malls, fun parks and more. This is not the idyllic beachside island people have in mind when they think of Bali.

Two major roads pass through the Tuban area, which covers the isthmus joining the small southern point of Bali, housing the Jimbaran, Tanjung Benoa and Nusa Dua areas, with the rest of the island. Immediately to the north of Tuban is the popular holiday area of Kuta. Just to the north of Kuta are Legian and Seminyak, the other two major Bali tourist destinations.

Tuban is ideal for visitors seeking the most straightforward combination of easy access, hotels, shopping, restaurants and nightlife and many expats live here. Tourists seeking something little more exotic and peaceful may find Tuban is not to their taste.

Most Tuban hotels are easy to reach from the airport, which is five minutes away by taxi. In addition, most city hotels enjoy excellent sea views as well as convenient locations. The beaches here are actually pretty good, especially considering the ease of access. Though there is a fair amount of nightlife in Tuban, the real action is in Kuta, only five minutes north by taxi.

Although it’s worth exploring farther afield in Bali, Tuban does offer a remarkable mix of quality beaches, Asian flavours and busy nightlife, allied to a huge variety of accommodation options, shopping and entertainment
