The sleepy town of Tiwi is famous for its hot springs and pottery. Although this is not the liveliest of places, it is a good place to relax and unwind.
The road between Tiwi and the nearby city of Tabaco offers pretty views of the sea and paddy fields. A good way to see this interesting area is by hiring a bicycle or a tricycle and exploring at your own pace. Those who enjoy solitude will find peace in Tiwi, although most people just pause here briefly.
There are a number of basic restaurants in Tiwi offering traditional Filipino food. This is also a good place to pick up a souvenir or two, and a visit to one of the local potteries provides the opportunity to watch as the red clay soil is transformed into a pot or vase to take home.
Getting There & Away
There is no direct route to Tiwi and travelers must first travel to Legaspi, which is an hour-long minibus ride away. Legaspi is a 55-minute flight from Manila and its international airport or a 15-hour train journey. There are also regular buses to Legaspi from neighboring cities such as Casawa and Isarog.
