Thazi Travel Guide

Although there’s not much to see and do in the sleepy town of Thazi, this trip is more about the journey that the destination itself. Between Myanmar’s two largest cities, Thazi is simply a pretty place to pause.

Travel through the Myanmar countryside by train and pause here in Thazi for a brief break before continuing on the journey to Mandalay or Yangon. Wandering through Thazi’s dusty streets is a good way to stretch your legs and get some much needed fresh air.

If you can’t face getting back into the train just yet, there are a few places in Thazi where you can spend the night, as well as some decent restaurants. The local temple is pretty and worth visiting if you have time to kill.

Getting There & Away

There is a train running directly between Yangon and Mandalay that stops at Thazi on the way. The journey takes around 16 hours from Yangon (you can sleep on the train) and 3 hours from Mandalay. Both Yangon and Mandalay have airports, with the former being the main international gateway and a 1-hour flight from Mandalay.
