Around twelve kilometers south of Mae Sai there is a turn-off to the west that leads to Tham Luang, and the road winds for around three kilometers to the cave; keep your eyes open for signs.

Set in an idyllic, quiet and luscious green setting with a visitor center and toilets, this cave is huge with well-formed stalactites and loud echoes. It’s supposedly one of the deepest caves in the country, but it’s best not to go too far in without a guide.

Bring your own torch (you will need it) as there is not always an entrepreneur around from who to hire one. If you are lucky you might see an English-speaking guide with a lantern.

Since the cave is several kilometers from the main road, public transport is not an option. Best to hire a motorbike taxi in Mae Sai as it’s a bit tricky to find.
