Situated just 25kms to the north of Yangon, most people visit Taukkyan to see the large war cemetery, which contains the graves of over 6,000 Allied soldiers who lost their lives in Burma during the WWII.

Taukkyan’s proximity to Yangon makes it a good place to visit on a day trip. Bagon is located to the north of Taukkyan and many visitors pause here briefly on their way from Yangon to Bago.

There aren’t many places to stay in Taukkyan or good restaurants, so it is better just to stop here briefly before continuing to one of Myanmar’s livelier towns or cities. However, the town itself is pretty and a nice place to relax while you wait for the next bus.

Getting There & Away

Tourists can only use the main airport at Yangon. Take a bus from Yangon’s Aung Minglar Terminal directly to the bus terminal in Taukkyan (30 minutes).
